Welcome to CortexOS

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the CortexOS mobile application ("App") and related services provided by CortexOS ("we," "us," or "our").

By downloading, installing, or using CortexOS, you agree to these Terms. If you disagree with any part, do not use the App.

1. What CortexOS Is

CortexOS is a privacy-first AI journaling application. Key facts:

• All processing happens on your device. Your journal entries never leave your phone.
• We cannot read your entries. They are encrypted with keys only your device holds.
• We do not have access to your data. This is by design, not policy.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use CortexOS. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf.

3. Your Account

• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and any authentication methods (PIN, biometrics) used to access CortexOS.
• If you lose access to your device or authentication, we cannot recover your data. There is no "forgot password" for privacy.
• You agree not to share your account access with others.

4. Subscription Tiers

Billing

• Subscriptions are billed through Google Play.
• Premium subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
• Lifetime purchases are non-recurring.

Refunds

• Refund requests are handled by Google Play per their policies.
• We do not process refunds directly.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to:

• Use CortexOS for illegal purposes
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the App
• Exploit bugs or vulnerabilities (report them to us instead)
• Use the App to harm yourself or others

6. AI Features Disclaimer

CortexOS provides AI-powered insights including sentiment analysis, emotion detection, and journaling prompts.

7. Data and Privacy

Our privacy practices are detailed in our Privacy Policy.

Summary:

• Your journal entries are encrypted on-device using AES-256-GCM.
• Encryption keys are stored in your device's secure hardware (Keystore).
• We operate on a zero-knowledge architecture—we cannot access your content.
• We collect minimal analytics (app opens, feature usage) with no personally identifiable information.

8. Intellectual Property

• CortexOS, including its design, code, AI models, and branding, is owned by us.
• Your journal content belongs to you. We claim no rights to it.
• You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the App.

9. Service Availability

• We strive for 100% availability, but the App is provided "as is."
• We may update the App periodically. Major changes will be communicated in-app.
• We reserve the right to modify or discontinue features with reasonable notice.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

• CortexOS is provided without warranties of any kind.
• We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages.
• Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

11. Termination

• You may stop using CortexOS at any time by uninstalling the App.
• We may terminate or suspend access for violations of these Terms.
• Upon termination, your locally stored data remains on your device until you delete it.

12. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms. If changes are material, we will notify you via the App or email (if provided). Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

13. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Malta. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Malta.
