By using CortexOS, you agree to these terms. The key points: you own your data, you're responsible for your recovery phrase, and we provide the app "as is" for personal journaling use.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using CortexOS ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. Description of Service
CortexOS is a private, AI-powered journaling application that provides:
Encrypted journal entry storage (AES-256-GCM)
On-device AI analysis via Llama 3.2 LLM (1B/3B parameters), TensorFlow Lite, and custom ML models
15-emotion detection, sentiment analysis, cognitive distortion alerts, and personalized adaptation
Voice-to-text transcription via on-device Whisper
Optional zero-knowledge encrypted cloud vault
Health Connect integration (sleep, heart rate, steps, workouts)
Smart notification intelligence with priority-based budgeting
NLP-based natural language reminder detection
Home screen widget for quick journaling
The App is designed for personal use and self-reflection. It is not a substitute for professional mental health treatment.
3. Your Account & Recovery Phrase
When you set up CortexOS, you receive a 6-word recovery phrase. This phrase, combined with your 4-digit PIN, is the only way to decrypt your data. Keys are derived using Argon2id (64MB memory, 3 iterations).
Critical: If you lose your recovery phrase and PIN, your data cannot be recovered — by you or by us. We do not have access to your encryption keys. Store your recovery phrase securely offline.

Premium (Cortex Deep): Monthly (€9.99) or annual (€79.99) subscription with 14-day free trial. Includes on-device Llama 3.2 LLM, 15 emotion detection, Health Connect integration, cloud vault, session mood monitoring, NLP reminders, and all premium features
Lifetime (Cortex Ultra): One-time purchase (€199.99) for permanent access to all premium features including lifetime updates
Payments are processed by Google Play. Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled 24 hours before the period ends. The 14-day free trial allows full access to Cortex Deep features — cancel anytime during the trial at no charge. Refunds are handled by Google per their policies.
5. On-Device AI & LLM
CortexOS runs Meta's Llama 3.2 language model and other AI models entirely on your device:
The LLM (1B or 3B parameters) is downloaded once and runs locally — no cloud API calls are made for AI processing
Model files are stored on your device and can be deleted via Settings
AI model updates may be offered through app updates
We do not collect, transmit, or have access to AI analysis results
6. Acceptable Use
You agree to use CortexOS only for lawful purposes. You will not:
Use the App for any illegal activity
Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or hack the App
Interfere with the App's security features or encryption
Use the App to harm yourself or others
Resell or redistribute the App or its AI models
7. Intellectual Property
Our IP: CortexOS, its code, design, custom AI models, notification intelligence system, and branding are owned by us. The Llama 3.2 model is used under Meta's license terms. You receive a limited, non-exclusive license to use the App.
Your Content: You retain full ownership of your journal entries and data. We claim no rights to your content.
8. AI & Insights Disclaimer
CortexOS uses on-device AI (including Llama 3.2 LLM and TensorFlow Lite models) to provide insights, 15-emotion detection, cognitive distortion alerts, mood predictions, and suggestions. These are:
Not professional advice — The App is not a therapist or medical professional
Not always accurate — AI analysis may misinterpret your entries
For self-reflection only — Do not use AI insights to make medical or critical life decisions
Continuously improving — The personalized adaptation layer learns your style over time but may not be immediately accurate

9. Health Data
If you enable Health Connect (Android):
Health data (sleep, heart rate, steps, workouts) is processed on-device only
We do not upload, store, or access your health data on any server
Health-mood correlations are computed locally and stored in your encrypted database
You control which data types to share via Android's Health Connect permissions
10. Cloud Vault
If you enable the optional zero-knowledge cloud vault:
All data is encrypted client-side before upload using your derived keys
Our servers only store encrypted blobs — we cannot decrypt them
Syncing can be paused or disabled at any time
You can delete all cloud data via Settings
11. Privacy
Your privacy is fundamental to CortexOS. Please review our Privacy Policy to understand how we handle your data.
12. Disclaimer of Warranties
CortexOS is provided "AS IS" without warranties of any kind, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted operation, accuracy of AI insights, or reliability of on-device LLM outputs.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, CortexOS shall not be liable for:
Loss of data due to lost recovery phrase or PIN
Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages
Damages arising from reliance on AI insights or LLM outputs
Any amount exceeding what you paid in the past 12 months
14. Termination
You may stop using CortexOS at any time. We may terminate access if you violate these terms. Upon termination, your local data remains on your device. Cloud vault data will be deleted after 30 days of inactivity.
15. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms. Material changes will be notified via the App or email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
16. Governing Law
These terms are governed by applicable law in the jurisdiction where CortexOS operates, without regard to conflict of law principles.
